ABOUT ALEX
Alex is a Yoga, Pilates teacher and body therapy practitioner with over 20 years of experience in treating people from all around the world
Many of Alex’s clients have kindly described her as inspiring and intuitive. Some with a more wicked sense of humour have named her 'Dr Spock' as she has an uncanny ability of knowing just the right spot to focus on to achieve profound physical and emotional release in the body.
Alex’s curiosity for body therapies began during her degree in Journalism from Cardiff University when she also began training in yoga and contemporary dance. She became fascinated by movement, both internal and external. Brilliant teachers helped her on her journey. One was was Philip Jones, an ex-coal miner whose lungs were 70% saturated with coal dust. Philip kept himself alive with pranayama, a form of yogic breathing. Another was Mary Madhavi who specialised in the psychological aspects of yoga as well as shamanism. Alex also found that her own struggles with asthma were eased through Chinese medicine and natural health practices, she was inspired.
Alex moved from Wales to London, where both her brothers were living and involved in the film and art world, which she loved. In London, she began working with Torben Hersborg at his clinic on Old Street. At the time she was suffering from an ankle injury she had received while dancing professionally. Alex resigned herself to this being a long-term issue as she’d tried all sorts of treatments. However, after a couple of sessions with Torben, who realigned her ankle joint and foot, the pain disappeared. She was sincerely impressed, and the experience inspired her to work alongside him to this day at the Central London Osteopathy Clinic.
Case Studies
Yoga for health support
Alex started 1-to-1 yoga sessions online with Drew during lockdown. In his late 60s and retired, he initially started working with Alex because classes were too fast, and he needed more focused work. He has a history of diabetes and tightness throughout his body. This year he has undergone treatment for skin cancer. Yoga has been helpful throughout this, and supported his wellbeing.
Yoga for pain
N. Khairallah started working with Alex in his 70s. he’d suffered from back pain for the last 42 years, and although fit and healthy and heading towards retirement. he was used to being in pain. A friend recommended Alex, so he thought he’d give yoga a try. Over the course of a few sessions, he lengthened muscles which were tight and therefore storing pain. He was finally able to experience a more pain free life.
Yoga for stress
Alex has worked with J Jenn for many years now. He wanted to study yoga to release stress and learn how to meditate,. He found classes too busy and given his history of knee injuries and a back op in his 30s he needed to be careful. His career meant he was constantly flying so time was an issue too. Alex was able to supply him with tailor-made classes that fit into his busy schedule.
Combining treatments for optimal health
“Alex has been working with me every week for the past three years. My simple aim at the start was to use yoga to sort out my stiff back, limbs and joints. Over time, yoga has evolved into much more. I often wonder whether Alex has X-Ray eyes, because she has an incredible capacity to see what’s happening with my physiology, adapting each session to focus on what she sees as being required at that moment. Meditation and breathing exercises have been added to our sessions and we are now combining yoga with pilates. From my perspective, I cannot over-emphasise the importance of my sessions with Alex. Every weekly session is uniquely designed to improve my well-being and my life is so much better for the experience.” D Patrick
Shiatsu, Cranial, Yoga and Pilates for
peri-menopause
“Since entering into peri-menopause, my anxiety has hit the roof. My periods are erratic and I have experienced more aches and pains than ever before. After a shiatsu and craniosacral treatment from Alex, i find that my periods regulate and i am calmer - this calmness lasts for days! The yoga and pilates help to strengthen the weak spots in my body, like my knees and shoulders. I wish i’d come across Alex sooner.” G. Mars
Shiatsu, Cranial for fatigue and heavy lifting
“I work as a Director of Photography in film and tv, so i’m always lugging around heavy items as well as working on set all day and often into the night. I make sure to book in a shiatsu session with Alex as often as i can. It helps me deal with the long hours and general exhaustion. I’m pretty sure her sessions are warding off serious back issues too.” B Clarkson

WELLBEING

I have worked with Alexandra for the past ten years. I originally chose 1-to-1 sessions because my extensive travel did not allow for a regular class schedule. Alex has a unique ability that allows her to observe you before each session and then analyse the problems you might be facing on the spot. She will then vary each class accordingly. It’s excellent.
